A highly motivated, competent RF and communication system test engineer, experienced with preparing, (from requirement specifications) and executing, (manually and with ATE), passive and active RF tests associated with RF communication subsystems. An example of the types of tests to be written and performed are:
AGC verification; Carrier acquisition; Receiver thresholds and tracking; TC data rates including BER; Testing frequency and coherency functions; Carrier power and stability; TM Modulation Index verification; Occupied bandwidth measurement; Spurious measurements; Ranging mod index; Insertion and return loss; RF Gain
The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge and experience with RF test equipment, e.g. spectrum analyser, network analyser, etc., will have a technical understanding of the whole RF communications chain and a range of RF communication chain measurements, from baseband through to RF transmission, some of which are listed above. In addition, are able to write test scripts to perform these measurements automatically within a ATE environment. Within Satellite test we use a bespoke language called ELISA.
Qualifications and/or Skills
Essential: Minimum of HNC, or equivalent in an Electrical and Electronic Engineering discipline.
Desirable: Telecommunications, Electrical or Aerospace related engineering degree
Current working knowledge of the following areas:
RF and data communications test measurements
Candidates should have an excellent working knowledge of RF COTS test equipment e.g. Spectrum Analysers, DMM, Oscilloscopes, data bus monitors, Network Analysers. etc.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Previous or current spacecraft test
Current competent software script writing, debugging, compilation and execution
