Airbus R&T in the wing perimeter has focused a lot in the past years on the structural and industrial aspects, resulting in the Wing Of Tomorrow concepts and ground prototypes. Even if such an optimized wing, with a folding wing tip, improves the performance compared to today standards, additional effort is needed to reach New Single Aisle targets.
Improvements will be possible using ?Disruptive Wing? technologies, focusing on wing performance. They are pushed by another R&T stream (note that wing performance is a major feature of any aircraft, whatever its configuration), and need acceleration or feasibility demonstration in order to match NSA development schedule.
The project corresponding to this position is the demonstrator of those ?Disruptive Wing technologies?. This is a 3 years exciting program which purpose is to fly a remote controlled drone, flying subsonic, at classical Airbus aircraft altitudes, with a 1/3 scale NSA wing heavily instrumented. Such wing would be fitted with folding wing tip, semi aeroelastic hinge, pop up spoilers, LIDARs, morphing surfaces, multifunctional trailing edges, and would incorporate a new generation of flight control laws, in order to actively control manoeuver, loads, gust and flutter.
The Airbus XWING Actuator Designer and WPL (M/F) position is within Airbus UpNext subsidiary in France, in the flat XWING project organization. It consists of a 3 years (from project start) secondment.
The job holder will work within the Overall Systems Design team with the main responsibilities as below:
Define and deliver the actuators for the new wing pop-up spoilers and foldable wingtip (FWT) ailerons, as well as the carrier A/C rudder and elevators:
The aim is to get off the shelf or easily modifiable existing equipment for the actuators.
The tasks could also evolve during the course of the project, so being flexible is important.
The role could also evolve into a product leader role for some actuators that includes the overall leadership of their integration into the A/C, depending on the candidate's experience.
Your Boarding Pass:
The successful candidate will be required to work very closely with the Loads and Airframe teams as well as the other actuators design teams. You should have good skills in collaborative work with a good understanding of interface management and practical problem solving.
