Description of VERTEX Demonstrator
Aim of Vertical & ERgonomic Transporter EXperience demonstrator is to simplify helicopter piloting through intelligent and cognitive technology with enhanced human-machine interfaces. Indeed flying a conventional rotary wing aircraft remains a task that needs to understand the physics of the rotorcraft and to master the onboard systems, thus requiring skilled and experienced pilots. The operators have to face important salaries and training costs but also will in future face a shortage of pilots especially when 2 pilots are needed for the mission.
VERTEX will demonstrate that new advanced systems (composed of new Avionics, vision and radar technologies, simplified HMI) can lead to a drastic simplification of the training of the helicopter pilots thanks to a higher level of automation. This will open the way to more pilot's profiles.
The demonstrator will have to handle several ground and flight phases: Navigation/route preparation, simplified Preflight check and route upload, Automatic ground-air transition for taxiing, Take-Off and climb, Flight path guidance, Approach and hovering, air-ground transition for landing.
These technologies will be a brick to be reused in Airbus VTOL projects.
The demonstrator could be a modified H130 (piloted), we intend to fly in beginning 2023. The demonstrator will be built in Marignane, France.
A design team will be based in Marignane and a second team in Toulouse, France. Partnerships are under discussion with entities in Europe and outside Airbus. Travel will be required to ensure coordination between both teams and/or development with partners.
As Flight Control System specialist (m/f), you actively contribute to the development of the Avionics and Flight Controls of the demonstrator. You elaborate and validate the algorithms for the generation and the handling of the trajectory, and then design and implement the control law for the taxiing, the flight and the navigation, onto the Auto-Pilot.
You have a strong ability to both conceive and execute: from the documentation of the needs to the low level code of the embedded software.
Your participation to creativity session is key to ensure the sprint set-up and filtering of orientations as regard as technical feasibility.
You are passionate and impatient about putting methods and processes in place to achieve your targets. You are the type of person who thinks about ?how things can be done? rather than ?if they can be done?.
You work collaboratively and with humility and are a constant learner about how to improve the performance.
A healthy dose of impatience with processes and bureaucracy, and willingness to move fast and take risks are essential attributes.
