Our client specialises in Airborne and Space systems, along with land and naval defence electronics, they are seeking an FPGA Design Engineer....

Key Res Key Responsibility Areas

You will be responsible for the creation of FPGA designs using VHDL and working within a structured FPGA design framework.

In this Firmware Engineering role, you will be asked to implement some upgrade to an existing firmware design within the Vehicle Mission Systems product range.

You will also be responsible for devising and implementing all necessary design verification tests and supporting documentation and following of the Firmware development process.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • Ability to create innovative VHDL based FPGA designs - particularly in the video domain
  • Able to undertake advanced verification techniques using VHDL
  • Working knowledge of current FPGA technologies from either Xilinx, Intel (Altera) or Microsemi (Actel) and their associated toolsets
  • Proficient in the analysis of system level requirements and deriving detailed FPGA requirements
  • Knowledge of methodical approaches across the full FPGA design lifecycle
  • Ability to define complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route
  • Comfortable working in a multi disciplinary team, liaising with Systems, Hardware and Software engineers from requirements definition through to product release
  • Skilled in de-bugging of FPGA designs
  • Communicating effectively with different disciplines both verbally and in written form
  • Able to peer review FPGA designs
  • Familiarity with Mentor Graphics FPGA development tools including HDL Designer, ModelSim / Questa and Precision is an advantage.

Intrinsic Factors

This is mainly an office based role using display screen equipment but you will also work in a development lab and occasionally in a production area in a clean room environment. Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad-hoc basis will be required. Occasional travel within the UK and abroad with overnight stays may be required. The nature of the programmes involving firmware design means that any candidate being considered for the position must be capable of achieving full UK SC security clearance and in addition the candidate will require the ability to access caveated information such as UK eyes only and ITAR.
