Senior Buyer (CAPEX Projects Procurement)

Based: Enfield, Middlesex

Salary: £42,500 - £52,500 DOE + Bonus & Benefits

My client is an industry-leading manufacturer who is looking to recruit a Senior Buyer into their in-house Purchasing Team. This new position is to be based in Middlesex and will require some travel to a sister site in Hertfordshire. This is an exciting time to join the business as they are in the early stages of transformation and there is the potential to make a real impact within this well respected company. Reporting into the Purchasing Manager, the successful candidate will be supporting the Engineering Projects operation of the business by providing professional sourcing, tendering, negotiation, contract implementation and project buying services, covering both direct and indirect categories. The post holder will be required to ensure exceptional quality of service is provided by successful tender winners and contractors through the project lifecycle whilst helping to deliver projects on time, at best value and managing associated CAPEX paperwork.

Applications are invited from Senior Buyers, Purchasers, Supply Chain and Procurement Practitioners who have significant experience of the tendering process and project buying. Candidates must be motivated to successfully deliver projects on time and within budget and suggest improvements to streamline processes after conducting their own analysis. Those who have previously worked within a heavy manufacturing and/or high volume, process driven environments (i.e. automotive, chemical, FMCG, food, agro-chemical, pharmaceutical, refining, or similar) are desirable but this is not essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading the procurement process of multiple projects throughout the life cycle of the project from the tendering process, through to construction and successful completion
  • Working closely with the projects and engineering teams to ensure project timelines are met
  • Developing and negotiating project tender packages, preparing contracts and procurement services
  • Analysing quotations, leading negotiations, managing pre and post tender interviews, all in order develop robust, commercially competitive package bids
  • Analysing tenders for compliance with project requirements, creating and analysing cost comparisons and providing appointment recommendations
  • Preparing tender documents and managing tender process through to completion including presenting justifications to senior management
  • Working in consultation with the project management team to develop and implement the project procurement strategy
  • Assembling and issuing contract documentation and service level agreements
  • Supporting the purchasing function and other relevant departments within the business
  • Communicating any project-related issues which may impact on business operations
  • Reviewing market place to determine potential alternative products, technologies and vendors
  • Building, maintaining and managing supplier relationships
  • Assessing and evaluating suppliers and contributing to performance reviews to ensure contract compliance

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and have a proven track record of developing and maintaining professional working relationships with external vendors, contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders. You also need to have a high level of numeracy in order to be comfortable making precise mathematical calculations to support negotiations. Equally as important is the ability to work well in a fast paced projects team. This role will mostly be office-based but will involve frequent domestic travel between sites so a driving licence and passport are highly desirable.
