Senior Planning & Project Control Engineer

My client is a world leading manufacturer with facilities across the globe. Due to recent growth and significant investment an opportunity has arisen to appoint a Senior Project Planning & Project Control Engineer to join their in-house Engineering Team. The successful candidate will play an instrumental role in the delivery of innovative manufacturing processes and infrastructure, developed through their R&D and Pilot Plants, at both new and existing manufacturing sites. This is an exciting time to join this rapidly expanding division of business as they embark on significant capital projects. They are looking for motivated engineers with excellent engineering skills, knowledge and previous experience of all phases of project lifecycle management within a heavy manufacturing / high volume, process driven environments (i.e. automotive, chemical, food, agro-chemical, oil & gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, refining, or similar).

Based at the Engineering Team\'s Head office in Hertfordshire, this role will mainly involve projects related to two new production plants to be constructed (one in UK and one overseas). In addition, you will also be involved in equipment and process improvements at their existing overseas manufacturing plants. You will have responsibilities for planning, designing, engineering, supervising and co-ordinating both capital and non-capital projects up to £8M in value. As part of the multi-discipline Engineering Team you will provide key input into the FEED for Pilot Plant and commercial scale manufacturing processes and have responsibility for project managing multiple engineering projects to ensure timely implementation of projects on budget and meeting client requirements.

Additional key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing budgets for multiple engineering projects
  • Coordinating the process or equipment design
  • Setting project deliverables and reviewing output of the engineering team
  • Ensuring relevant documentation adheres to company corporate procedures and is agreed with the client
  • Developing project CAPEX requests and ensuring alternatives and business cases have been duly considered
  • Conducting studies to determine the requirements of both new and modified equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Leading interactions with external parties including consultants, designers, technical experts, and equipment vendors as required on projects
  • Ensuring EHS requirements are met and risk assessments are conducted
  • Meeting site management to report project progress and proposals
  • Communicating information with key stakeholders and managing their expectations

Candidates must hold a minimum degree-level or equivalent technical qualification (such as chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar) and have a proven track record of successfully delivering multiple projects simultaneously. Candidates who are currently and/or have previously worked within sectors that focus on industrial chemical processes, solid or bulk material handling, or powder materials are of particular interest. Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role, as is stakeholder management. Equally as important is the ability to work well in a team as well as leading and directing team members. This role will involve some domestic and overseas travel so a driving licence and passport are highly desirable. There is also excellent career progression associated with this role, together with a very competitive salary and excellent package.
