Sagem (Safran) just tested and integrated successfully a new generation optronics multi-sensors suite on its Patroller™ endurance UAS.

Tested in France between April and June 2014, during a campaign of 30 flights, this new optronics suite is based on a Euroflir 410 gyrostabilised turret. It is characterized by extended capabilities for long distance identification, day and night. In addition, this new version of Euroflir 410 is fitted with a very high resolution spooter and a Matis AP infrared camera.

On the Patroller UAS, this new generation imagery chain integrates a high rate data link which is fully compliant with the performance of the high definition sensors of the aircraft, allowing the restitution of the images without degradation. The ground segment encompasses new processing software and new tools to ease mission operations: automatic tracking of mobile targets, activity detection.

The performance level of this new imagery system was demonstrated during several realistic scenarios as recently met by armed forces in operations: intelligence collection, operation support, search and rescue, etc…

Developed by Sagem, the Patroller is a 1-ton class tactical UAS. Because of its modular design, the Patroller drone can carry a payload with capacity of 250 kg in its bay or in pods (optronic, radar, electronic warfare), on flights of 20 hours and over, at an altitude up to 20,000 ft.

Multi-sensors intelligence system, Patroller UAS is designed to meet military or security requirements. Integrating several innovations, it draws on Sagem’s extensive experience with its Sperwer tactical drone system, including nine years of feedback from operations in Afghanistan.

Developed and produced in France by Sagem, the Patroller mission system is based on a European cooperation involving Ecarys (Stemme), a German manufacturer which supplies its S15 airframe in order to address French and international needs.
