ExoMars is a space exploration program that aims to discover any traces of Life on Mars. Thales Alenia Space is prime contractor on the ExoMars missions, that will generate a mother lode of data, feeding researchers for many years to come!
ExoMars is in fact a joint program between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian space agency, Roscosmos. The 2016 mission aims to demonstrate Europe's ability to land a probe on the Red Planet. Meanwhile, the Orbiter will help determine the landing site for the 2020 mission. During this second mission a descent module will place a rover on Mars. This rover will in particular drill into the Martian soil to take samples and perhaps discover any traces of life. ExoMars 2016 was successfully launched in March 2016 by a Proton rocket.
