SIMBAD-RC turret for Mistral missiles comes of age

Christophe Leduc, naval adviser at MBDA, presents the real-life SIMBAD-RC turret and key features of this light naval air defence system.

Designed to provide a primary self-defence capability on fast patrol boats or on logistic ships or to provide an inner layer air defence complementing the main air defence on first rank warships, this system is mounted on a stabilised launcher equipped with two ready-to-fire Mistral missiles and remotely controlled from the operations room.

It is aimed at replacing the manually operated SIMBAD system which is in service with several navies around the world.
