EC225 Knowledge Center: Precautionary Measures

Eurocopter considers the EC225 technical problems which led to the two controlled ditchings of EC225 in the North Sea in 2012 to be fully understood.
The safety measures have been approved by the EASA. We expect the operational restrictions imposed by certain national aviation authorities to be lifted shortly.

Eurocopter has defined 2 precautionary measures:
- Early detection of a potential crack thanks to non-destructive ultrasonic inspection
- Beyond the usual ground analysis, permanent monitoring of shaft condition thanks to in-flight MOD45 vibration data monitoring
These precautionary measures will ensure that should a crack be present, it will be detected before take-off or with sufficient advance warning to permit the pilots to return to base.
