An introduction to SKF condition monitoring in railways

Condition monitoring can help you reduce the number of unplanned stops, stretch your maintenance intervals, and lower maintenance costs. But how does it work?

Condition monitoring of rotating parts is like monitoring of your heart.
Like a heart, every rotating part has its own unique heartbeat, expressed as a vibration pattern. By monitoring changes in that vibration pattern, it is possible to detect early symptoms of damage.
Every rotating component in a bogie system also has its own, unique vibration pattern: the traction motor, gearbox, wheels, and wheelset bearings.
With condition monitoring technology you can isolate the vibration pattern of each component and detect early symptoms of damage to it.Contact us to learn more. railways@skf.com
