First Day with VITA and Sparky!

VITA specifications and connectors can be a little confusing. What is VPX? What is SOSA?

Hunter: So yeah the offices are over there, around the corner we have the conference room and uh your desk is just around the corner over there, I'll take you right now.

New Employee: Great

H: Yeah here we are. Home sweet home for you, and uh if you have any questions at all just please let me know and I'll be happy to help you

NE: Okay thank you.

NE (to self): ...VPX...what is...?

[Music]

NE: Nice

NE: How am I going to sell these products? VITA? I don't even know how these are different from other connectors. How am I supposed to do my job if I don't even know what products we sell?

Sparky: I think I can help with that!

NE: What the...?! Who are you?

S: I'm Sparky, your guide to Amphenol's vast inventory of interconnect solutions! I heard that you need some help learning about our VITA product line

NE: Yeah...okay. Before we get started, what is VITA anyway?

S: VITA is the working group that develops standards and specifications for modular computing systems. Amphenol is a member of this group and these standards form the backbone of Amphenol VITA connectors. VITA 46 is known as VPX and is the first VPX standard developed by VITA. VITA connectors are a commonly used product standard in the military and aerospace industries.

NE: That sounds pretty powerful. Can you tell me about this one? The R-VPX Evolution 2.0?

S: Sure! This connector is optimized and qualified to data rates in excess of 25 gigabits per second, which makes it among the fastest VITA 46.30 connectors in the world.

NE: Interesting. Huh. I think I'm starting to get the basics of these connectors. Okay, then what about this one: the MIL-HD2?

S: The MIL-HD2 VITA 91 interconnect is our newest VITA connector. This new Amphenol connector was developed in alignment with the Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture, or SOSA for short. It is scalable to lightning-fast data rates of 56 gigabits per second PAM4 speeds in a high density package and available in multiple differential pair configurations. These interconnects are the perfect connectivity solution in systems like radars, sensors, integrated processors, and more. The SOSA standard is developed by the SOSA Consortium and is different from VITA. SOSA focuses on open architecture standards for sensor systems in the military and aerospace industries.

NE: Wow! I think I have a really good grasp of Amphenol VITA connectors now. Now I won't make a fool of myself when I talk to the other engineers. Thanks, Sparky!

S: No problem! If you ever need any more information about connectors, I'm your guy!

Grumpy Co-worker: Hey I know it's your first day and you're nervous and all but you don't have to talk to yourself that loudly. Some of us have work to do.

NE: Oh, sorry about that.
