Shipmates to Teammates: How Three U.S. Navy Veterans Reunited at GE Aviation

Steve Maynard, Randy Johnson, and Rob Liner all work for GE Aviations marine gas turbine business, which provides reliable turbine power aboard 631 naval ships in 39 navies around the world. But these three dont just know each other from workfor a short period in the early 1990s, all three served aboard the former U.S. Navy Spruance-class destroyer, USS Fletcher (DD-992), which was powered by four GE LM2500 gas turbines.

Each going their own way in the following decades, Maynard, Johnson, and Liner became teammates again after joining GE Aviations marine business. Ironically, none of them even knew the others worked for GE when they applied for their respective positions, only discovering that their former shipmates would be their new GE Aviation teammates.

Now theyre using their U.S. Navy experience to chart the future of GEs marine gas turbine technology and provide reliable power for naval customers globally. It seems like its more than a coincidencefate, luck, a fluke? Whatever you prefer to call it, this is an unlikely story of three of GE Aviations veterans.
