Safran : Celebrating National Intern Day 2021

Safran companies across the U.S. offer internships and co-op educational programs, giving students the opportunity to gain vital work experience, develop new skills, and explore career paths in aerospace and defense. Internships are mutually beneficial, providing a way for the Group to build its talent pipeline.

​In recognition of National Intern Day, we are highlighting several interns that work in the United States.

René Otto, UX Design & Innovation, Safran Cabin

• How did you hear about Safran?

I met Ron Verweij during an online event about Service Design and recognized that we shared a passion for UX (User Experience) Innovation. I explored the company and quickly learned that I welcomed any chance to work with Safran.

• What do you enjoy about your internship at Safran?

What I have enjoyed most is working with some of the most intelligent, sophisticated human beings I have ever had the honor of collaborating with to make real progress. I was given the opportunity to innovate and co-create strategies to help make one of the world's most complex supply-chain interaction experience platforms simple, action-oriented and joyful for all those involved.

• What is the most important thing you have learned during your internship?

The most important thing I have learned is that people and their values drive the creation of all goods and services. If the right people are at the helm of innovation and strategy then we can create a better world...a world focused on human values and human unity.

Alena Brayshaw, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Intern, Safran Aerosystems Evacuation

• How did you hear about Safran?

My brother interned here in both the OPEX (Operational Excellence) and engineering departments and had a fulfilling experience.

• What do you enjoy about your internship at Safran?

I enjoy being around the other employees here who bring such positive energy daily and have made me feel welcome. Those who I work with at HSE department really support me and teach me essential skills that I will carry in my career.

• What is the most important thing you have learned during your internship?

I have learned the importance of safety in a workplace. Sustaining safety can always be improved upon and is an essential aspect of the facility.

Alyssa Carnicella, Mechanical Engineering Intern, Safran Electrical & Power Twinsburg

• How did you hear about Safran?

They came to my university's career fair.

• What do you enjoy about your internship at Safran? 

Hands on experiences and good, easy to understand mentoring.

• What is the most important thing you have learned during your internship?

How to organize my time and thoughts better to complete tasks more efficiently.

Emma Rosenbaum, Marketing Intern, Safran Optics 1

• How did you hear about Safran Optics 1?

I heard about Optics 1 from LinkedIn and I live in the area.

• What do you enjoy about your internship at Safran Optics 1?

I feel like a valued member of the team. I've really enjoyed the freedom that I'm given over projects as well as the chance to collaborate with different departments. 

• What is the most important thing you have learned during your internship?

I've learned how to speak up when I have an idea, take risks, and try new things. By embracing all of the projects sent my way, I have gained a lot of new skills. 

Josh Fisher, Human Resources Intern, Safran Test Cells

• How did you hear about Safran?

Through a social-networking site called Handshake.

• What do you enjoy about your internship at Safran?

I enjoy the amount of responsibility I am given here. It shows that I am trusted, and it gives me opportunities every day to learn something new or sharpen a useful skill.

• What is the most important thing you have learned during your internship?

I learned that it's ok to not completely know how you are going to tackle a problem when you are first presented with one. Sometimes, the hardest thing is to just get started, but taking time to do relevant research and create an outline of what you think an end-product could look like is a valuable skill. Bringing something to the table allows it to be critiqued, and a project can take off from there.

• How did you hear about Safran?

I first learned about Safran from a family member who worked here.

• What do you enjoy about your internship at Safran?

I really enjoy how the internships here aren't just sitting around doing busy work or running errands. You are always given real tasks to do and actually get to apply your knowledge to the task and learn even more from these tasks.

• What is the most important thing you have learned during your internship?

I think the most important thing I've learned is just how integrated each branch of supply chain is to one another. It is really important for each group to do their part to support the other teams.
