Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, has announced a global recruitment campaign to welcome experienced Airbus captains. This initiative is part of the continued expansion of its wide-body fleet due to high demand on its global network. In order to strengthen its pilot team, the airline invites qualified captains to apply for its Direct Entry Captains program and take command of its fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft.

To facilitate this process, Emirates is organizing an online information session on October 4th at 11 a.m. (French time) to allow interested pilots and their families to learn more about the benefits of this opportunity. In addition, open days will be held in certain cities, providing a unique opportunity to meet the Emirates team in person.

Direct Entry Captains Program

This program is designed for technically qualified captains with at least 3,000 recent flight hours on Airbus fly-by-wire wide-body aircraft, such as the A330, A340, A350, and A380. Candidates must also have accumulated at least 7,000 flight hours on multi-engine aircraft with multiple crew members, in addition to meeting other eligibility criteria.

Experience at 10,000 meters

With a community of 4,200 cabin crew members, including 1,515 A380 pilots, newcomers will be in good company to operate the company's 260 aircraft, including the iconic Airbus A380 and Boeing 777. The upcoming arrival of A350 aircraft in mid-2024 and 777-9 aircraft in 2025 will further enrich the experience.

Furthermore, the company's diverse network spanning six continents offers a variety of flight experiences.

Continuous Training

Emirates invests heavily in pilot training to ensure high standards of safety and performance. Currently equipped with 10 flight simulators, the airline offers robust evidence-based internal training programs, featuring specially designed operational environments and instruction by experienced trainers. A new $135 million training center, set to open in March 2024, will further increase pilot training capacity by 54% and will include six additional flight simulators, including those for the A350 and Boeing 777-9.

Additionally, pilots have access to non-technical training programs at the Emirates Aviation College and Emirates Aviation University, further enhancing their expertise.

Life at Emirates and in Dubai

Emirates' expatriate pilot community hails from 111 countries, reflecting the company's multinational crew, consisting of 160 nationalities. Pilots enjoy a competitive tax-free salary, spacious accommodations, education allowances, excellent medical, dental, and life insurance coverage. Moreover, they receive chauffeured transportation for professional travel, laundry service, 42 days of annual leave, Business Class tickets for their annual leave, discounted cargo service, and discounts for family members, among many other benefits.

Emirates pilots have numerous career opportunities, including the possibility of transitioning to management, recruitment, training, and auditing roles, while continuing to fly.

Over the past five months, the company has welcomed 172 new pilots through its recruitment programs, including Direct Entry Captains, Accelerated Command, and First Officers.

Accelerated Command Program

The Accelerated Command program is specifically designed for Airbus captains currently flying narrow-body aircraft, who have accumulated at least 1,500 hours of electric flight experience on Airbus aircraft. After joining the program as first officers for the A380, they can qualify for an accelerated upgrade after a minimum of 700 flight hours and two successful periodic assessments.

First Officer Program

Candidates for this program must have experience on multi-engine, multi-crew aircraft, a valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and a minimum of 2,000 flight hours on aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 20 tonnes.
