From Mars to Earth

Our Mars Trace Gas Orbiter circles the Red Planet every two hours, collecting scientific data from surface-bound rovers and relaying it back to Earth, as well as gathering its own data about the planets atmosphere, water abundance and alien surface.

All of NASAs and our orbiters provide data relay services for surface missions, which currently comprises NASAs Curiosity rover and Insight lander. The ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) is a key provider, relaying around 60% of NASAs Mars surface data to Earth. TGO will be the primary relay for the second ExoMars mission in 2021, which comprises a rover and a surface science platform.
