EP15: inside the cockpit of a plane | Safran

Aircraft pilots call it the most beautiful office in the world. With all of its panels, control screens and joysticks, the cockpit is a place shrouded in mystery. Today, we share with you all you need to know about modern aircrafts cockpits. Traditionally divided in 4 distinctive panels, learn about the main functions and location of each element:

1 - The overhead panel - to control the aircrafts different systems: landing lights, anti-icing systems, pressurization systems, hydraulics...

2 - The panel below the windshield - responsible for managing the planes autopilot.

3 - The dashboard - several screens located here provide pilots with data and information regarding the flight status : position, speed, altitude, tilt, data about the aircrafts engines...

4 - The central console - nicknamed the pedestal, hosts several onboard computers allowing the pilot to program the flight prior takeoff: quantity of fuel, the weather, the payload... It also controls the flaps, the engines thrusts and the weather radar.

Climb aboard for a guided and off-the-wall tour. After watching this, the cockpit wont hold any more secrets from you. Good watch !
