Tecnatom has supplied Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI), prime South Korean aviation parts and composite equipment manufacturer, a new inspection system, which constitutes the most complete robot-based one ever delivered to date. Final acceptance test on the new system was accomplished in early March.

Specifically, this is about a system composed by two robots or Twin Robots to perform ultrasonic inspections, providing great advantages and flexibility which enable to apply both transmission techniques and pulse-echo methods so evaluation of surfaces, edges and radii of the composite material can be carried out.

“This is not the first time that we supply our equipment to KAI to inspect composite materials, as they acquired a large-sized immersion tank for pulse-echo inspection with phased array technology as well as other Tecnatom Group’s supplies. However, this system represents a very important technological milestone for our company as it involves improvements in the control productivity. This solution is also equipped with phased array technology and two automatic changer modules which provide quick configuration settings”, states Antonio Tanarro, Tecnatom’s manager of diversification and aerospace business development. “In addition, to complete its wide range of services, the system includes a specific laser module easily adaptable to inspect new complex geometry parts”, he adds.

Together with KAI, the Korean tech centre for research of composite materials, GNTP, has received another robotic inspection system few months ago. Both projects consolidate the presence of Tecnatom Group in this country, which keeps expanding its visibility in Asia.
