On Wednesday, September 13th, a major event marked the French industrial landscape with the inauguration of Air France's "Concorde" building, located at the heart of the Orly hub in Île-de-France. This new building represents an investment of 30 million euros, a testament to Air France's commitment to its maintenance activity, even in times of crisis due to Covid-19. This inauguration opens up new development prospects for the airline's maintenance activity, thus confirming its status as a center of excellence in this field.

A Strategic Project for the Aerospace Industry

The "Concorde" building is much more than a simple structure. It embodies an ambitious strategy aimed at enhancing Air France's competitiveness in the field of next-generation engine maintenance. To achieve this, several major developments have been initiated through this iconic project:

Consolidation of Engine Revision Activities: The new building brings together all engine revision activities in Orly, eliminating workflow disruptions and significantly optimizing engine processing times.

Streamlined New Organization: A new simplified organization has been put in place to align the engine processing process, simplify management, and reduce interfaces.

Team Engagement: This project has also fostered a new dynamic in the workplace, thanks to a collaborative approach that has garnered particularly strong team engagement.

Support from Public Stakeholders

The investments necessary for the realization of this project were made possible with the financial support of the Île-de-France Region (1 million euros) and the State within the framework of the France Relance plan (800,000 euros). This underscores the importance of Air France's MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) activity as a sovereignty asset and a key element of France's industrial excellence.

This building, essential to meet the innovations of the new generations of engines, also highlights how technological advancements benefit local areas by stimulating local employment.

A Pillar of Employment in Île-de-France

As a dynamic employer in Île-de-France, Air France plays a crucial role in the Orly area. Air France Industries represents over 2,500 jobs in the region, with nearly 900 dedicated to engine activities. The Air France Group (Air France and Transavia) generates nearly 7,000 direct jobs at Orly.

The "Concorde" project has already created recruitment needs since its launch over two years ago, thereby enriching the teams. Air France, aware of its social role as an employer, is committed to enhancing its contribution to the professional integration of young people in the Orly employment area.

The company is a signatory of the manifesto for an industrial and productive territory, committing to developing apprenticeships in various industrial trades and promoting gender diversity in these fields. These commitments are made in close collaboration with associative actors and public authorities to ensure that the development of activities benefits the entire Greater Orly area.

Job Creation and Training

The "Concorde" project is also a driver of job creation in Air France's industrial activities at Orly. The new organization implemented by the unique building has already led to the hiring of nearly 97 employees on permanent contracts since 2021, while hosting 265 interns and 94 apprentices during the same period. This momentum continues in 2023, with 150 positions to be filled, particularly in production.

Furthermore, this project has provided the opportunity to train many employees in new skills, with the implementation of 50,000 hours of training, notably within the Engine School.

Finally, an inclusive "engine maintenance" pathway has been developed in partnership with the Jeremy Association, the CFA des Métiers de l'Aérien, and the support of local actors. Three cohorts of Preparatory Operational Employment Collective (POEC) have thus been trained.

Air France's Historical Presence in Île-de-France

This project demonstrates the importance of Air France's territorial anchoring. The company has always been committed to offering professional opportunities to residents of the Île-de-France region, contributing to the region's development.

From both an industrial and social perspective, this project reinforces Air France's position as a key player in the future of the French aerospace industry.
