#Milan was one of first shot of #CSG, the second generation of #COSMOSkyMed radar satellite constellation. The image, acquired on February 23rd over the north-eastern of Milan, in the municipality of Cinisello Balsamo, has been taken in a with 0,3-meter resolution and show how the new #CSG features allow to observe the structure of the roads and buildings with extreme accuracy. #spaceforcitizens

Eleven years ago, on May 14, 2009, the Herschel and Planck spacecraft blasted into orbit from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana at 9:12 am local time (13:12 UTC). TYSONS, VA. April 9, 2020 Omnispace, the company that is reinventing mobile communications by building a global hybrid network, today announced it has selected Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), to develop the initial component of its satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure. This will advance Omnispaces vision to deliver a global hybrid communications network based on 3GPP standards.

Thales Alenia Space will design and build an initial set of two satellites for operation in non-geostationary orbit (NGSO). These initial satellites will support 3GPP-defined (the 3rd Generation Partnership Project telecommunications specifications that unite standard development organizations) Narrow-Band IoT radio interface and will serve to advance the development and implementation of Omnispaces global hybrid network. This announcement marks a key milestone as Omnispace initiates the development of its new generation NGSO satellite constellation which will operate in the S-band.

ExoMars is taking off in 2022

We have decided together with @roscosmosofficial have decided to postpone the launch of the second ExoMars mission to study the Red Planet to 2022.

The joint ESA-Roscosmos project team evaluated all the activities needed for an authorisation to launch, in order to analyse the risks and schedule. With due consideration of the recommendations provided by European and Russian Inspectors General, ExoMars experts have concluded that tests necessary to make all components of the spacecraft fit for the Mars adventure need more time to complete.

The primary goal of the mission is to determine if there has ever been life on Mars, and to better understand the history of water on the planet. The ExoMars rover, named Rosalind Franklin, includes a drill to access the sub-surface of Mars as well as a miniature life-search laboratory kept within an ultra-clean zone.

Impressive satellite shot taken by COSMO-SkyMed SG1 .
COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation image, acquired on February 5th, 2020 at 06:43:46 hrs (UTC) over the southern offshoots of the Hofsjökull glacier in Iceland. The image has been taken in Stripmap Dual Pol mode, with 3-metre resolution. The radar image allows appreciating, better than optical satellite data, the complexity of the glacier surface, which is amplified by the combination of the two polarisations used. The same is also true for the land outside the glacier, whose morphology can be very clearly appreciated, even though actually the land was completely covered by snow at the date the image was acquired. COSMO-SkyMed satellite is a crown jewel in Thales Alenia Spaces fleet of radar observation satellites. This state-of-the-art satellite features the latest technologies and engineering solutions.
