It's a big hit: LEAP carbon fiber composites are making a lot of fans

The LEAP fan blades and case -made of a 3-D woven RTM (resin transfer molding) composite material- provide considerable weight savings, compared to the same size fan made using the same titanium blades as on today's engines.

The composite blades are also much more resistant to foreign object damage (FOD) than their metal counterparts, as well as more resistant to fatigue caused by high-cycle operation.
