Job Description

Instrumentation Technician / Engineer

Based: Royston, Hertfordshire

Salary: £39,000 DOE (includes shift allowance) + Overtime + Bonus & Benefits

Instrumentation Technician / Engineer

My client is currently seeking to recruit an Instrumentation Technician or Engineer to join the Maintenance Team at their busy Manufacturing Plant in Royston, Hertfordshire. They are looking for candidates with excellent engineering skills, knowledge and experience of maintaining a wide range of equipment. Applications are invited from maintenance technicians / engineers who have worked in heavy manufacturing and/or high volume, process driven environments (i.e. automotive, chemical, food, agro-chemical, pharmaceutical, refining, or similar).

The majority of this role involves instrumentation tasks including repairs, calibration and testing. In addition, you will assist with maintenance duties (both planned preventative and corrective) and minor project work as required in order to facilitate the smooth and efficient operations of the business.

This role covers a full range of activities, including:

  • Ensuring the on-going reliability and accuracy of instrumentation across the plants.
  • Ensuring calibrations are kept up-to-date and recorded.
  • Identifying and reporting any current or potential issues.
  • Liaising with the maintenance team leader to agree work priorities, including both reactive and planned maintenance activities to ensure that customers and stakeholders are supported in their operational needs.
  • Carrying out Plant Modification work to help enhance both plant safety and efficiency.
  • Supporting the projects teams at initial design stages to offer advice on the correct selection of plant and equipment to ensure improved levels of future plant reliability and maintainability.
  • Ensuring that all relevant departmental administration such as; time sheets, work orders (WMO), stores purchase requisitions, etc. are completed to ensure concise work history and financial accountability.
  • Carrying out statutory and other testing on site to help maintain both ISO 9001 & ISO14001 accreditation.
  • Taking ownership of your own training and development plans to ensure continued development of your own skills and expertise, undertaking additional training skills to keep abreast of technology changes, and the changing needs of the business.

This is a challenging role; the successful applicant will be flexible, determined and self-motivated, with experience of shift work. Candidates must have previously carried out maintenance within a process industry and hold a recognised mechanical qualification / completed an engineering apprenticeship. Previous experience of a maintenance management system would be beneficial, as would a fork-lift licence.

Shift patterns: 12 hour shifts operating 12/7. Shift times and additional information available upon application.
