Just as the sun peeked through the mist on January 25, the maiden flight of the Boeing #777X took to the skies from Runway 16R-34L. Powered by the #GE9X, the twin-engine wide-body passenger jet spent nearly four hours airborne before returning to the airport.
The GE9X engine is the largest and most powerful commercial jet engine ever built. The pilots in the cockpit on the airplanes first foray had engines capable of providing a record-breaking 134,300 pounds of thrust available on each wing.

Since opening 26 years ago, employees at GE Aviation Durhams #manufacturing plant in North Carolina have helped build products for the companys biggest commercial engine programs. In August 2019, a group of assembly #technicians completed production of the 2,000th GEnx engine.
The #GEnxEngine, the fastest-selling widebody engine GE Aviation has ever produced, marked its 15th year since launching in April 2004. More than 1,900 engines are flying today with 60 operators of Boeings 787 Dreamliners and 747-8 aircraft.
