IRPHE

The Institute is a joint research unit of CNRS, Centrale Marseille and Aix-Marseille Universit. It was created at the beginning of 1995, by regrouping a combustion research laboratory with two institutes of fluid mechanics. It was restructured on 1 January 2000.

The general theme of this multidisciplinary institute is the modeling of complex macroscopic systems; It involves experimental, analytical and numerical studies. The disciplines concerned are fluid mechanics, macroscopic physics and numerical analysis. Different subjects relate to energy, hydrodynamics, oceanography, condensed matter, biomics and biophysics. The Center also carries out applied research on fundamental research.

Studies of complex systems far from the equilibrium present a common methodology: systematic reduction of the degrees of freedom and analysis of nonlinear phenomena. This requires the interactive implementation of laboratory and / or large scale analytical and numerical methods. If the market remains based on a physical analysis by specialists in the field, the success lies in the synergy of very varied skills ranging from applied mathematics to the most advanced experimental methods. The aim of this institute is to combine these different skills on specific problems to benefit from the cross-fertilization of several disciplines.
